Rise Credits Loan is a free connector service. You fill out one short request, and we pass it to lenders and lending partners in our network who may be able to offer you a personal loan between $500 and $5,000. We do not lend money, approve requests or set rates. Lenders do all of that.

The steps below explain what happens to your information, which kinds of credit checks may occur and how long things usually take. Timing and outcomes vary by lender, so treat everything here as a general guide rather than a promise.

The Process in Five Steps

  1. Submit one request. Tell us how much you want to borrow, what the money is for, and some basic details about your income, employment and contact information. The form usually takes a few minutes, and there is no fee to send it.
  2. We share it with lenders. Your request is passed securely to lenders and lending partners in our network that serve your state and loan amount. Each one reviews it against its own criteria, which can include income, existing debts and credit history.
  3. A lender may contact you. If a lender is interested, you may be shown an offer on screen or redirected to the lender's website. Some lenders follow up by email, phone or text to confirm details or request documents such as pay stubs.
  4. Review the terms carefully. Before you accept anything, read the APR, the monthly payment, the number of payments, any origination fee and any late fees. Compare the total cost with other options. You are free to walk away from any offer.
  5. Sign with the lender directly. If you accept, you sign the loan agreement with the lender, not with us. The lender handles funding, your account, your payments and any questions about your loan from that point forward.

What We Share With Lenders

We share the information you enter on the request form so that lenders can evaluate it. That typically includes:

  • Your name, address, date of birth, email address and phone number.
  • The loan amount you want and the purpose you select.
  • Employment status, income amount and how often you are paid.
  • Housing status and, where requested, details needed to verify your identity, such as the last digits or full number of your Social Security number.
  • Bank account details if a lender needs them to deposit funds or set up payments.

We share this only with lenders, lending partners and service providers that help us run the service, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your request to unrelated marketers for their own use.

Soft vs Hard Credit Checks

Submitting a request through our site generally does not affect your credit score by itself. Many lenders start with a soft inquiry, which lets them see part of your credit file to estimate whether they can make an offer. Soft inquiries are not visible to other lenders and typically do not change your score.

If you move forward with a specific lender, that lender may perform a hard inquiry before finalizing your loan. A hard inquiry is recorded on your credit report and can lower your score by a few points for a while. Some lenders use a hard inquiry earlier in their process, so read each lender's disclosures before you continue. You can learn more about the difference in our glossary entry on soft inquiries.

How Long It Usually Takes

Many people see whether a lender is interested within minutes of submitting a request, though some reviews take longer. If you accept an offer and complete verification, some lenders may fund as soon as the next business day. Others take several business days.

Timing depends on factors outside our control, including:

  • How quickly you provide any documents the lender asks for.
  • Whether the lender needs to verify your income or identity manually.
  • When your request is submitted, since weekends and bank holidays can add time.
  • How quickly your bank posts incoming deposits.

No Obligation and No Fee

Using our service is free, and you are never obligated to accept an offer. You can compare what a lender shows you against a credit union loan, a card from your bank or another option and decide the cheapest path for your situation. If no lender makes an offer, you owe nothing and nothing further happens with that request.

Why Offers Differ

Two people asking for the same amount can see very different terms. Lenders price loans based on credit history, income, existing debt, the state you live in and their own business rules. Mainstream personal loans often carry APRs from about 6% to 36%, while lenders that focus on fair or poor credit may charge considerably more. State laws also cap rates and fees in different ways. Our Advertiser & Lending Disclosure includes a representative example of how APR affects your monthly payment.

Tips Before You Submit

  • Request only the amount you need, since a smaller loan usually means less total interest.
  • Have recent pay stubs or bank statements ready in case a lender asks for them.
  • Check your credit report for errors beforehand, so a mistake does not count against you.
  • Work out what monthly payment fits your budget before you see any offers.

Questions About the Process

Our support team can explain how the request process works, help you update the contact information you submitted, or record a request to stop marketing messages. Questions about a specific offer, a loan balance or a payment need to go to the lender that issued your loan.
